Seasonal movement patterns inferred from real, georeferenced animal observations. Animated dashes move from earlier to later months.
Records come from the public GBIF Occurrence Search API. For each species and selected month, the atlas retrieves georeferenced presence records from 2023–2024 and calculates the median latitude and longitude. Consecutive available months become directional arcs.
Occurrence records are affected by observation effort and dataset coverage. These paths are exploratory seasonal summaries—not telemetry tracks, exact flyways, population estimates, or navigation advice.
The first view is precalculated from the same API so the atlas works immediately. Selecting “Refresh from GBIF” replaces it with a new public-API sample.
